Choose The Adventure

On a recent visit to this, the most northern of the inhabited Channel Islands, I discovered why Alderney, with its dramatic landscape and varied natural habitats, attracts not only inquisitive tourists like me, but wildlife lovers, bird watchers and those just seeking peace amongst nature.

Check out the second of my two blogs on Alderney – a very special little island that’s just a short hop, skip and a jump from the UK.

Back in the 1970s, childhood holidays were often spent, pottering, or was that being dragged, around pretty towns and villages, playing football with jumpers as goalposts or eating fish and chips on the beautiful beaches along the stunning East Devon Jurassic coast.

Last Autumn, I took a somewhat nostalgic trip back to some of those wonderful old haunts such as Honiton, Sidmouth, Beer and Seaton.

There was however another reason to head to sunny Devon, as I also wanted to see and learn about the recent reintroduction of a rather fabulous mammal into the River Otter near Otterton – the Beaver!

I hope you enjoy the read as much as I enjoyed this little mini break. Did I find those elusive Beavers? Have a read and find out!

Late last year I had the opportunity, courtesy of the rather splendid Aurigny Airlines, to spend 48 hours on the island of Guernsey in the Channel Islands.

The island is the perfect short break for anyone looking for fresh air, great food, superb beaches and above all else relaxation.

Discover some of the places that grabbed my attention including Candie Gardens, Castle Cornet, Cobo Bay and the town of St Peter Port.

I’m Rupert, a British chap with a passion for travel, wildlife, nature, and conservation.

In early 2020, after 30 successful years of working in the UK travel industry, the impact of Covid-19 and the need to spend the following two years caring for a poorly parent changed the direction of my life.

As a result, this travel blog was born and a new chapter is now unfolding.
